Did Josh Hutcherson name his new puppy after Ryan Gosling?

Okay so maybe Josh Hutcherson’s new puppy Driver isn’t named exactly after Ryan Gosling, but there is a Gosling connection. When US weekly caught up with Josh at last nights GLAAD awards, he shared the origin of his cute new puppy’s name.

“I’m obsessed with the movie Drive, and Ryan Gosling‘s character was named Driver,” he told Us Weekly at the GLAAD Awards in Los Angeles Saturday night. “I always thought it was a good name for a dog so it just kind of worked out.”

So there you have it, Josh’s puppy is named after Ryan Gosling’s character in Drive. I gotta say we love the name!  In case you missed the cuteness, here’s Josh and Driver:

Josh Hutcherson: ‘Francis Lawrence is extremely talented’

E! Online also chatted with Josh Hutcherson at last night’s GLAAD Media Awards to get his thoughts on the change of directors for Catching Fire.

“[Writer/director] Gary Ross was the best guy in the world,” Hutcherson said at the GLAAD Media Awards, where he’s being honored with the Vanguard Award. “I think he brought so much to the movie. I’m definitely going to miss him.”

Hutcherson added that he had thought Ross was on board for all three flicks, but he’s psyched to work with the sequel’s new director. “Francis Lawrence is extremely talented,” he said. “I’ve heard he’s the nicest guy in the world. I’m really excited to see what he’s going to do with it.”

You can read more at E! Online. Josh also talked briefly with Zap2It about his involvement with Straight But Not Narrow and his thoughts on Gary Ross and Francis Lawrence.

“It’s something I’ve believed in since the day I was born,” says the 19-year-old star, who was presented with the Vanguard Award at the gala. “My family was very much into equal rights for all people, different races, sexuality, whatever. And I just think that I was raised with the ability to feel comfortable with whoever I was, and just to know people aren’t raised with that kind of belief is just sad. So, I wanna try and change that as much as possible.”

… Hutcherson had this to say on the [director] news. “I’m excited about it. I love Gary Ross, I’m gonna miss him dearly. I thought he brought great things to the movie but at the same time, Francis is extremely talented, and I’ve heard nothing but good things.”
